George II Lantern Alarm Clock in Period Oak Case of Diminutive Proportions

An exceptionally rare George II lantern alarm clock.

Housed in a diminutive oak case with gilded finials and superb patination. circa 1750. Movement by John Dixon, St Ives, Cornwall

5″ brass dial with a brass chapter ring bearing Roman numerals with pierced brass spandrels, the arch with circular name plate, the verge escapement striking on a bell. 198cm high.

It is most likely that this charming ‘hook and spike’ lantern alarm, circa 1750, was originally commissioned or simply purchased to have its very own case tailor-made. The case has its original seat board with concave recesses in witch to place the lantern clocks original bun feet. It is beyond reasonable doubt to assert that the case and lantern are original to one and all……..
