They had been poorly restored at some point in the past and unfortunately resprayed using a modern lacquer. They had also suffered greatly from general wear and tear whilst in daily use in the gallery. The leather had perished in places, buttons were missing, joints were loose and moulded small sections of woodwork were damaged. We managed to mind an original label on the leather showing that the hides had been supplied by a Scottish company which is still trading. We ordered hides in the same colour and carried out all necessary woodwork.
