A set of Mahogany dining chairs

A set of Mahogany dining chairs from the Bursar’s office in one of the Oxford College

They had suffered from general wear and tear and some terrible recent repair work. Joints were loose, the seat rails had been ravaged by woodworm and were in danger of further damage because they were so fragile and steel plates had been added to try and strengthen broken mahogany legs. All rails were consolidated, enabling then to be reupholstered, steel plates removed and the show wood patched, repairs colour matched and all were wax polished. In addition, all of the later upholstery was removed and replaced with traditional stitched, horse hair squabs.
